The Universitat Jaume I sets up a project to promote responsible innovation in Science Parks of the Valencian Community. It will include, among other actions, the development of training materials about Responsible Research and Innovation that address the Valencian business sector and the organisation of training workshops in centres belonging to the Network of Valencian Science Parks (REPCV) during which the companies linked to the Science, Technology and Business Park of the Universitat Jaume I, Espaitec, will talk about their experience in performing responsible innovation actions.

This project is financed by subsidies to promote and revitalise the Science Parks of the Generalitat Valenciana and to continue with development from 2018 as part of the same call, which allowed responsible innovation actions to be taken in four Espaitec-linked companies. With this new project, the results obtained by these four companies will be followed up and experience will be transferred to other Valencian Parks as the ultimate objective us to promote more responsible research.

This project encourages Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) model promoted by the European Union so that the processes and results of science and technology are aligned with society’s real interests and values. To accomplish this, the UJI Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit, in collaboration with the Research Group Practical Ethics and Democracy, developed a communication model based on actions involving dialogue and participation. This model was put into practice with Espaitec-linked companies, and was very positively scored by the participants, as reflected in the published book Aplicación de la Investigación e Innovación Responsable (RRI) en los parques científicos that forms part of the collection «Humanitats» with the main project outcomes.

The companies that participated in the project and will now transfer their experiences are Cuatroochenta, which develops mobile phone applications and other digital transformation products; SemanticBots, which specialises in designing conversational platforms based on conversational bots with artificial intelligence; Zeus Smart Visual Data, a company that offers solutions to combine mass data sources and reflects them on many panels to provide a complete real-time vision on dashboards; Proyecto Kryptonita, which specialises in undertaking R&D activities in the food sector.

The project «Experiences in responsible innovation: an opportunity for Valencian Science Parks»,  financed by the Regional Valencian Government of Education, Research, Culture and Sport, is being undertaken by the UJI Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit in collaboration with the Research Group Practical Ethics and Democracy, and is supported by the Vice-Rector of Research and Transfer.
