The firm Semanticbots, which is linked with Espaitec, the Science and Technology Park of the Universitat Jaume I, has developed an inclusive chatbot for tourism in the towns of Santa Pola and Vinaroz, and employs its SayOBO technology platform to do so. The pilot chatbot will initially work in Spanish, and its response capacity will be incorporated into other languages to become a Multilanguage chatbot based on the firm’s own technology.

The chatbot, called Paula and Joana, includes answers to a considerable number of questions that are worked on with tourism technicians from Santa Pola and Vinaroz, Invattur and SemanticBots’s technical team. Questions are about accessible tourism, the municipality, its monuments and services, and coronavirus security measures for tourism. This information will be adapted and improved so the chatbot can offer an increasingly wider cover for the information needs of those tourists visiting these two towns. The more people who interact with the chatbot, the higher the index of right answers as the chatbot requires a training time for its functions to improve.

The presentation of Paula and Joana as an inclusive tourism chatbot for Santa Pola and Vinaroz coincides with the Tourism Department’s presentation of the Valencian Community 2020-2025 Strategic Tourism Plan. The fact that both towns are developing and installing this artificial intelligence-based system with Invatturs’ support clearly depicts their commitment to inclusive innovation and tourism. This technology is important for society on the whole, and proof of this lies in the creation of the Valencian Artificial Intelligence Strategy presented in December 2019.

SemanticBots is a technology-based company from Castellón formed by teachers and research personnel from the Temporal Knowledge Bases Group (TKBG) of the Universitat Jaume I, which has developed the first inclusive chatbot that adapts to people with eyesight problems and the elderly. SayOBO has been developed using the firm’s own platform to facilitate and improve access to information and digital proceedings for society.
