This event takes place from 28 to 30 September in the Multisports Pavilion of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) to bring together some 200 programmers from the Valencian Community
This is a 48-hour non-stop encounter of programmers that stresses the young technological and innovative talent in the province of Castellón and in the Valencian Community. The Multisport Pavilion of the Universitat Jaume I will host the third edition of Hackathon Castellón from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 September 2018, a now well-established event since it commenced in 2016 as a platform for launching projects and professional careers.
Hackathon Castellón promotes collaborative programming with students of Computer Engineering, Designing and Development of Video Games and Computational Mathematics. It is also for practicing professionals who seek a different weekend. Five challenges are set out by the companies promoting this encounter: Nayar Systems, IoTsens, Cuatroochenta and Networking Directivas Castellón (NDCS).
The Jury, in which Juan Antonio Bertolín, Espaitec’s Management Director, and other innovation and ICT professionals take place, will assess their creativity, technical difficulty, finishing touches, feasibility and presentation to decide on the €3,000 in awards and the 6-month stay in the Espacio Base co- working centre in Castellón. This year the technological challenges include programming a chatbot and a video game for mobile phones (Cuatroochenta), facial recognition applications (Nayar Systems), Industry 4.0 solutions (IoTSens) and an open-theme app (NDCS).
The rate at which registrations are being made 1 week before the event indicate that there will be considerably more than the 125 people who registered in 2017. Indeed the organisers are preparing the event for about 200. This growth is explained by Hackathon Castellón’s motivating climate, and by the excellent experience lived by those who attended previous editions. It acts as a lab of ideas to embark on technological projects and as a showroom to capture talent as some participants have been contracted by companies in the technology sector.
To complete this experience, Hackathon Castellón also offers a complete schedule of specialised talks that will look closely at technical or business aspects, and will take place this year on Friday 28 September. As a novelty, technicians new technology partner, IBM, will participate in this forthcoming edition, along with a long list of patrons (Generalitat, Castellón Council Offices, Universitat Jaume I, CEEI, Soma Tech Club) and collaborators like Espaitec, plus support from the Regional Ministry of Education, Research, Culture and Sport.
