Global Game Jam” is a one-weekend event where professionals and fans of video games gather together to develop video games in different places around the world. During the evening of Friday 24 January, when the “secret theme” will be revealed, several teams will be formed, made up of programmers, artists, modelers, designers, etc., who will be free to show their creativity and will collaboratively work to convert an idea into a functional video game.

The creators of GGJ have created this event to promote and stimulate creation and collaboration among video games developers. They stress that this event is not competitive; rather it is devised for the participants to develop their skills, to work collaboratively and, above all, to have a good time.

The Global Game Jam 2014 event is to be run simultaneously in 475 locations distributed in 72 different countries. In the 2013 edition, more than 3,000 games were created, and 16,705 people from 63 different countries participated in 319 locations.
