- Science and technology parks house 8,157 firms, of which 20% perform I&D
activities - In 2018, the organisations located in parks invested 1,111 million euros in I&D.
Spanish science and technology parks’ growth continues. According to the figures
presented by Felipe Romera, the APTE Chair at the 17 th International APTE
Conference on blockchain, they evidently come over as a strong driver for our
innovation system.
55 representatives of APTE Park Members, with a delegation of Espaitec, met at the Universidad de Málaga Rectorate to hold the Association’s second general assembly, during which APTE presented the statistical data it prepares every year about the activity performed by the organisations located in Spanish science and technology parks. The 2018 data were very positive.The APTE Park Members closed 2018 with 8,157 companies and organisations on their premises, which is an increase of 1.8% compared to 2017. Employed also significantly grew as the number of workers in the parks increased by 3.8%, which totals 175,763 employees, of whom 34,291 specialise in R&D, which is an increase of 0.4% compared to 2017.
The turnover of these companies also significantly rose compared to 2017, and came to
28,984 million euros, which was 7.2% up on 2017.
In 2018, parks invested 1,111 million euros in I&D, which is 3.6% higher than in the
previous year.
The ranking of the production sectors where parks had the most companies was still led
by the ICT sector with 24.9% of the firms, followed by Engineering, Consultancy and
Counselling with 18.1%, and the Medicine and Health sector with 7.4%.
