This morning, the Universitat Jaume I celebrated the 2nd edition of the “Day of the Entrepreneur”, a day in which the offer of entrepreneurship and innovation activities and programs for the 2023-2024 academic year was presented.
The second edition of the "Day of the Entrepreneur" has brought together more than 300 students in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Legal and Economic Sciences of the Universitat Jaume I. The day marks the official launch of the program of activities in innovation and entrepreneurship for the 2023-2024 academic year that are organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Innovation, Transfer and Scientific Dissemination. The vice-rector, David Cabedo, opened the day, and was accompanied at the table by Marisa Flor, director of innovation and entrepreneurship at the UJI.
In his speech, David Cabedo highlighted "the importance of acquiring entrepreneurial skills for adequate development of one's professional career." As he stressed, “university students and, in general, the entire university community, can acquire these skills through the programs in which the UJI entrepreneurial itinerary is structured. Itinerary that, managed in a coordinated manner by the INCREA Chair and by Espaitec, Scientific and Technological Park of the UJI, includes activities ranging from initial training in entrepreneurial skills to specific actions to support the creation of companies.
For her part, Marisa Flor explained that “the Universitat Jaume I helps students develop transversal entrepreneurship skills; enabling entrepreneurship to create social, economic and cultural value. She also added "that the UJI promotes the programs: UJILab Innovació, UJI Challenge, Aula Emprende and UJIStartup." Flor has highlighted the initiative UJIStartup, a business creation program aimed at the university community (alumni, students, faculty and administration and services staff), which currently has open registration for its seventh edition until October 25.
The event included the participation of two successful entrepreneurs, former students of the university, who are currently running their own companies: David Berbel (Momoven) and Alfredo Cebrián (Cuatroochenta).
David Berbel (Momoven)
David Berbel, CEO and co-founder of Momoven, is a mechanical engineer and Master in Management from the Universitat Jaume I. He was project director UJI Electric Racing Team in its first edition, in which an electric motorcycle was designed and manufactured to compete in the international Motostudent competition. He worked for 2 years at the MotorLand Aragón circuit, serving as Director of Operations during the MotoGp and Superbike competitions. In 2019 he founded Momoven together with his partner and friend Pablo Carceller, and since then they have been revolutionizing the two-wheeled sector in Spain.
Berbel has highlighted “that the key moment when starting a business is betting on the project. In my case, I left my job at the MotorLand Aragón circuit, and we decided to focus on Momoven. And we currently have 3 physical stores in Spain and we are considering internationalization.
Alfredo Cebrián (Cuatroochenta)
Alfredo Cebrián has a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the Universitat Jaume I and Master in Business Intelligence by OBS Business School. He founded Four eighty in 2011 with Sergio Aguado at Espaitec, after having directed R&MK, a spin-off of the Universitat Jaume I, dedicated to market research. Currently he is CEO and CEO of Cuatroochenta, a technology company that develops cloud software and cybersecurity solutions for companies and institutions in Spain and Latin America.
Cebrián has highlighted that “the important thing when starting a business is to think in movement. In my case, I had no vocation, which can lead to the paralysis of imagining it, but to break this dynamic, you have to think in movement, and Cuatroochenta is the conjunction of thinking in movement and meeting people.
In the final part of the session, attendees had the opportunity to talk with the entrepreneurs. The "Day of the Entrepreneur" is an initiative that has the support of the Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana.
