The objective of the program is to promote the creation of sustainable business initiatives promoted by the university community

El social and technological entrepreneurship program of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló, UJI Empren OnSocial, has completed its fifth edition with the presentation to investors, mentors and trainers, of the seven projects who have been finalists. The program is coordinated by the vice-rector for Innovation, Transfer and Scientific Dissemination from the Jaume I University.

This fifth edition of the program began with 28 sustainable projects. After the training phases, seven finalist proposals are candidates to become companies promoted by students, teachers, teaching and research staff, administration and services staff and former UJI students.

During the opening of the project presentation event, which was held in a hybrid format to guarantee representation at the national level, the vice-rector for Innovation, Transfer and Scientific Dissemination, David Cabedo, who has highlighted the strategic importance of the program for the UJI as a vehicle for transmitting the knowledge generated at the university to society. 

In addition, the director of Espaitec, Scientific and Technological Park of the UJI, Juan Antonio Bertolin, and the director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the UJI, Marisa Flor, have been in charge of moderating the session, in which the Spanish Seniors Association for Technical Cooperation (SECOT Castellón) through his vice president, Vicente Nebot, who has highlighted the quality of the participating projects, the increase in entrepreneurial initiatives generated edition after edition, the effort made by the organization of the program to continue the training and the commitment of the participating students and teachers to continue developing ideas that promote a change in our society with the support of technology and innovation.

The seven ideas candidates to become companies

The seven finalist projects of the fifth edition of UJI Empren OnSocial, combine social commitment, innovation and technology to offer solutions applied to all types of needs of our society. The projects will be eligible for the call for aid for the creation of companies with the financial support of the Banco Santander, through Santander Universities, that will be convened in 2022. 

Assessment Quality: This is an innovation created by two psychologists who have devised a new process for evaluating multiple choice exams by digitizing them in a standardized way.

VirtualRunner: It is the first video game for fitness machines, it encourages sports practice using the attractive power of interactive video games with the use of mobile phones and Smart TV through advanced interaction with common devices such as the Smartwatch or similar. This project provides great health benefits by preventing diseases such as diabetes, childhood obesity or heart disease, among others. The idea is that it is a video game that can be used individually or played with other players simultaneously.

Automatic Device for Self-Service Restaurant: This project aims to create an automatic device that avoids queues and speeds up payment in self-service restaurants by preparing a ticket prior to checking out according to the options chosen and inserted in the tray. For this purpose, work is being done with the prototype with which to carry out validation tests.

FinTech for reputational risk management: These entrepreneurs have created a reputation management platform that will be focused on companies with FinTech and banking businesses. The main idea is that in the event of any negative news, a notice is generated to the company so that they can assess the effect it may have on them and if it is necessary to take some type of initiative.

Circular Earth: deals with waste management of electrical and electronic equipment through selective collection to separate components that can be used again and recycle those that cannot return to the production chain. The purpose of this future startup is to become a viable company option that is located within the circular economy on the issue of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

Retelier: is a platform created to choose the best gifts. Through this platform you can find a unique, exclusive and quality gift considering some previous premises provided by the user. In addition, thanks to retelier you will find gifts in small shops or artisan shops that make the experience of giving something much more exclusive.

Digital resilience systems and Alternative Energy: It is a project idea that tries to avoid connectivity problems and search for alternatives for digital systems. The main idea is to market kits that prevent disconnection and failure to use the devices due to dependence on the electrical supply. 

It should be noted that the UJI, with the support of the Department of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, is already working on the sixth edition of the program for the 2022-2023 academic year.
