Sayobo uses artificial intelligence systems to improve digital accessibility

More than 253 million people have visual disabilities in the world. With the aim of improving their accessibility to digital environments and facilitating their online self-management, Espaitec companies SemanticBots has developed Sayobo. It is the first chatbot capable of easily integrating into any website, app or other digital channels of companies and organizations to communicate with their clients or users, making them more accessible for people with visual disabilities.

Sayobo It has been designed to answer in different languages, both by voice and by chat. It also adapts to the needs of each person as it is used to make it more useful when offering information or managing tasks from digital channels.

Extensive experience in chatbot development

Semanticbots is a start-up created in the Universitat Jaume I which has extensive experience in the development of conversational platforms (chatbots) with artificial intelligence. The Sayobo system, developed entirely by a university research team, allows layers of customization, the implementation of new features and integrations to be easier than in other systems on the market. An issue highly valued by companies and institutions when implementing this type of tools in their digital transformation processes.

Ismael Sanz, expert in Artificial Intelligence and researcher at UJI Temporal Knowledge Bases group and CIO of Sayobo, assures that “the innovations we are creating will serve to facilitate access to digital information for millions of people. From the beginning it was a challenge that we welcomed within the company, especially when we discovered first-hand the digital obstacles that people like Marcos or Fidel faced. Both are affiliates of ONCE to whom we could provide solutions with our technology and knowledge. "We are going to continue working and collaborating with these people and associations to adapt much more to their needs."

Sayobo's user experience design is being done by web development and marketing company AticSoft. Your CEO Carlos Sánchez  has highlighted that «Nowadays, it is not enough for companies and institutions to just have a website, but digital content must be personalized and accessible to all audiences. Therefore, the improvements that the Sayobo chatbot has will greatly facilitate this work for companies.

«The fifth industrial revolution is focused on artificial intelligence and without a doubt this is a clear example of how the use of this technology can benefit and be useful for both people and companies» Hugo Ferrer, CEO of Sayobo.

Responsible innovation experience

The development of Sayobo arose from the participation of SemanticBots in the project «Towards responsible innovation: Science parks as an engine of change», developed by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the Communication Service of the Universitat Jaume I, which sought to promote Responsible Research and Innovation through participation and dialogue with different interest groups so that innovation processes and results are sustainable, desirable and acceptable.

Thus, SemanticBots decided to begin an investigation into what solutions and tools were available to people with visual disabilities when they search for information or carry out transactions through the digital channels of companies and institutions. During this research, it was possible to learn first-hand about the problems that people with visual disabilities face on a daily basis thanks to the collaboration and knowledge provided by typhlotechnology professors from ONCE Castellón and Valencia, as well as people with visual disabilities from Castellón. and Gandia.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 253 million people with visual disabilities in the world. Of them, 36 million are blind and 217 million with a moderate or severe disability. In Spain, more than one and a half million people suffer from low vision and in Europe there are another 9 million cases. In addition to this, experts predict that the number of people with low vision could triple before 2050, so solutions like Sayobo can make the lives of these people much easier when it comes to consulting information, making purchases or reservations, or making any type of management from different mobile devices over the Internet.
