El scientific-technological entrepreneurship It is a key driver of innovation, competitiveness, and transformation of the productive fabric in the Valencian Community. However, transforming research results into market solutions remains a complex process, conditioned by technical, financial, and regulatory barriers.

 

In order to respond to this challenge, the Universitat Jaume I, through Espaitec and in coordination con the Knowledge Transfer Office (OTC), It is designed UJISpinoff, a comprehensive incubation, acceleration, and support program aimed at scientific initiatives with the potential to become Knowledge-Based Enterprises (KBE).

Who is it for?

The program is designed to research staff and research groups at the UJI who are considering creating a company based on the results of research, technological development, or innovation. It's not necessary to start with a fully defined project: UJISpinoff accompanies from the initial phases of ideation to validation and preparation for launch.

Expected results

The launch of the UJISpinoff program will directly contribute to Increase the number of spin-offs created at the Universitat Jaume I, reinforcing the institution's role as an agent of knowledge transfer. It will also allow participating projects to move forward validated business models and solid financial plans and ensuring its viability.


Another expected result is the Improving the transfer between research teams and the entrepreneurial and investment ecosystem, fostering collaboration and access to strategic opportunities. Together, this will result in the generating a positive economic and social impact on the environment, contributing to the growth of the knowledge-based economy in the Valencian Community.

Success stories

The pilot program, developed in 2023-2024, enabled the creation of four UJI spin-offs. These initiatives have demonstrated the potential of the model and the need to consolidate it as a stable support program.

Cebimat

Cebimat focuses its activities on the study of the biodegradability of materials and the development of innovative technological solutions related to this biological process. Born from the Polymers and Advanced Materials Group, led by researchers Luis Cabedo and José Gámez, the company aims to transfer scientific knowledge to the industrial sector, promoting a circular and sustainable economy.

Molecular

Molecular Sustainable Solutions specializes in developing innovations in sustainable chemistry, focused on replacing hazardous chemical agents with safe and environmentally friendly solutions in disinfection and sterilization processes. The company was born from the research of the Sustainable and Supramolecular Chemistry Group (QSS), led by researcher Eduardo García-Berdugo, along with his business partner Carlos Estevez, with the goal of transferring cutting-edge science to the market, generating a tangible impact in multiple industrial sectors.

Becadi is a spin-off company specializing in the development of digital tools for assessing human functioning and disability. The company was born from the research of Professor Micaela Moro Ípola and has developed innovative solutions such as the BECAD and ECADI batteries, designed for use in clinical, educational, and social contexts.

Cooryc

Cooryc is a spin-off of the Universitat Jaume I that designs and manufactures intelligent robotic grippers to help companies improve their handling and logistics processes.

 

Finance

En 2023, the program UJISpinoff had the support of the Valencian Agency for Innovation (AVI). In 2024, the support continued through the Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment of the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA) which allowed the promotion of new knowledge-based entrepreneurship actions, with a focus on training, dissemination, and the social application of research results. In 2025, support will be reinforced with funding from the Department of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism of the GVA, with an amount of 41.021,26 €, with the aim of consolidating technological maturity and the arrival of spin-offs on the market.

This trajectory shows how, year after year, the combination of institutional support has been key to the growth of companies emerging in the UJI ecosystem, ensuring a continuous path from research to effective transfer to the market.
