The 20 companies located in the buildings of the Scientific and Technological Park of the Universitat Jaume I employ 164 people
The science and technology parks are the main backbone of the University's third mission, one of its primary functions being to promote the transfer of knowledge and research results to society. At the end of the 2018 financial year, Espaitec had 20 established companies, firms with headquarters or branches in the facilities of the Universitat Jaume I and 22 related companies, that is, companies that, although not physically installed on the Riu Sec Campus, do have a close collaboration with the UJI through its link to Espaitec.
The total turnover of the 20 companies installed in Espaitec during the 2018 financial year amounted to 12,8 million euros, making an investment in R&D close to one million euros. A total of 164 people carry out their activity in the established companies, 94 of them men and 70 women. Of the total number of hired workers, 30% carry out activities related to research and development, with 59% of the workers and promoters of the companies being graduates of the Universitat Jaume I. Regarding the hiring of talent, 37 people carried out internships in the established companies, 25 did so as end-of-year internships and 12 as extracurricular internships through the FUE-UJI. Throughout the year, 19 new graduates were hired by the established companies.
Regarding the presence of the companies established beyond the province of Castellón, it should be noted that 60% of the established companies have activity in other Spanish provinces and 40% carry out international activity in 21 countries such as the United States, Holland, Germany. , Mexico, Argentina, Italy, Thailand, Chile, Switzerland or Colombia. It should be noted that during 2018 three companies of European origin and promoted with foreign capital decided to open headquarters in Castellón from countries such as Switzerland, Belgium or the United Kingdom.
In terms of research, during the 2018 financial year the established companies have collaborated in 71 research projects of national and international scope. During the year the companies obtained two patents at the national level and one at the international level. Regarding the transfer, the 20 installed companies have collaborated with nine research groups from the Universitat Jaume I.
