Five research groups from the UJI and four companies from Espaitec have presented their work on the application of information and communication technologies in the healthcare field

The multipurpose room of the Espaitec 2 building hosted the event this morning ICT applied to health developed at the Universitat Jaume I: research, keys, trends and solutions marketed by Espaitec companies. A day of dissemination and technology transfer organized by the Office of Cooperation in Research and Technological Development (OCIT) and the Scientific, Technological and Business Park of the UJI (Espaitec).

During the presentation ceremony of the day Ismael Rodrigo, director of the OCIT, has highlighted the trajectory of the UJI in the application of information and communication technologies in the health field. In his speech he highlighted how some research groups dedicated to health, especially in the field of psychology, have seen an opportunity in technologies and have expanded their research. Likewise, groups of technological origin have found a range of opportunities in health, focusing their research in recent years on this line.

Meanwhile david cabedo, academic director of Espaitec, has highlighted the importance of this type of meetings between research groups and companies to guarantee the third mission of the university focused on the transfer of knowledge. Along these lines, he recalled that Espaitec has launched e'Joint4Challenge, an online platform that aims to connect the needs of medium and large companies in Castellón with the human talent, innovation and technology existing in startups and research groups of the Universitat Jaume I.

The event included the participation of five research groups from the Universitat Jaume I. Oscar Belmonte, coordinator of Research Group on Machine Learning for Smart Environments, has been the first to intervene by presenting the Senior Monitoring project, a solution focused on non-invasive monitoring for the care of the elderly. Next, Edgar Bresó, coordinator of the Emotionally Intelligent Organizations Research group, has presented new methodologies for the development of emotional intelligence through mobile applications.

Enric Cervera, researcher at the UJI Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, was next presenting a pilot case of using the humanoid robot to help learn communication skills in children with ASD. Azucena García Palacios, researcher at the Laboratory of Psychology and Technology (LABSITEC), has been the fourth researcher who has intervened by announcing an application that improves the evaluation and intervention in chronic pain. To end, Micaela Moro, coordinator of the Neuropsychology and disability research group, has presented BECAD, an online tool to assess disability and dependency and guide rehabilitation.

The second part of the day focused on learning about the technologies related to digital health developed and marketed by Espaitec companies. Rafael ForcadaCEO Actualmed has presented Actualpacs, a secure medical image archiving and management platform used by radiologists nationally and internationally. Next, Guillermo Rodriguez, R&D&i director of Biotics Biochemistry Analytical, has presented Legiolab, the first automated equipment capable of analyzing legionella in situ, which is the result of an H2020 project. Next, Susana Aceituno Mata, Associate Director of the company Outcomes'10, has spoken about tools to help shared decision-making between the healthcare professional and the patient. Finally Alba Diaz, the director of the biomedical department of Rithmi has made a presentation based on the benefits of continuous monitoring in the detection of atrial fibrillation.

The day has been closed by Jesus Lancis, vice-rector for Research and Doctorate at the Jaume I, who has highlighted the trajectory of these conferences and their importance in promoting the transfer of knowledge and technology between UJI research groups and companies linked to Espaitec and the rest of the provincial business fabric. The event has the support of the Department of Education, Research, Culture and Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana and is part of a set of communication actions organized by Espaitec to promote the dissemination of science and technology in the province of Castellón.

Five UJI research groups and four espaitec-linked companies presented their works about the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) to the health domain

This morning the multipurpose hall in the espaitec 2 building was the venue for the event ITC applied to health developed at the Universitat Jaume I: research, keys, trends and solutions marketed by espaitec-related companies. This event intends to disseminate and transfer technology, and was organized by the Cooperation Office for Technological Research and Development (OCIT) and by the Science, Technology and Business Park of the UJI (Espaitec).

During this presentation event, Ismael Rodrigo, OCIT's Manager, stressed UJI's commitment to apply ICT to the health domain. During his speech, he highlighted how some research groups working on health matters, particularly in the psychology field, saw the opportunity in such technologies and extended their research. Some technology-based groups found a wide range of opportunities in health and have focused their latest research on this area.

David Cabedo, Espaitec's Academic Director, stressed the importance of these encounters between research groups and firms to ensure the third university mission that centers on knowledge transfer. Susana Aceituno Mata, the Associate Director of the company Outcomes'10, talked about tools to help in the decision making shared between the health professional and the patient. Finally, Alba Díaz, the Head of the Biomedical Department of Rithmi presented the benefits of constant monitoring to detect atrial fibrillation.

This event was closed by Jesús Lancis, the Vice-Rector of Research and PhD Studies at the UJI, who underlined the commitment of these events and their importance for favoring knowledge and technology transfer between UJI research groups and espaitec-linked companies, and to the rest of the business fabric in the province of Castellón. This event was supported by the Regional Valencian Ministry of Education, Research, Culture and Sport of the Generalitat Valenciana and forms part of a series of communication actions organized by espaitec to encourage the dissemination of science and technology in the province of Castellón.
