The award-winning initiatives aim to normalize food donations and preserve forests

The first edition of UJI Empren OnSocial, program to promote entrepreneurship among members of the university community, already has winning projects. These are two initiatives that, using technology, seek to generate a positive social and environmental impact in the world where we live. Each project will receive 10.000 euros in aid to continue developing its initiative with the support of Espaitec and SECOT Castellón.

Foodration4all

Behind Foodration4all are Kilian Zaragozá Mora, José V. Villarroig Claramonte y Andrea Lorenzo Chiva, three UJI Alumni who met studying Engineering Industrial Design and Product Development. Its objective is to improve the current donation system food and social integration of disadvantaged people, thus responding to the conviction that business projects capable of generating wealth and economic value, in turn providing value and benefits to society.

Through Foodration4all They want to make everyday things food donations. To achieve this, they are developing a fluid and sustainable network between society, supermarkets, donors, social entities and beneficiaries. All coordinated through a mobile application that helps generate simple and quick donations through emotional experiences in the place where the action occurs, involving donors and personalizing their help.

Greenflight

GreenFlight is a start up that uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to preserve forests, or in the case of areas degraded by fires, waste dumps or proliferation of pests, to help recover them. The project, promoted by Joan Esteban Altabella, Technical Architect and Doctor in Industrial Technologies and Materials from the Universitat Jaume I, offers preventive and corrective services related to forest preservation.

In the preventive part, it carries out reconnaissance flights to map the territory differentiating, by plots, areas at risk of degradation. This aspect also offers a service focused on surveillance of tourist concentration points and another in the execution of forestry actions with georadar indications. The corrective part focuses on recovering the areas degraded by fires, proliferation of pests or by the illegal dumping of waste through the dispersal of pre-germinated seeds, point-by-point fumigation and indication by georadar of the areas on which intervention must be made.

After months of training and mentoring, coordinated by the Increa Chair, podcast y SECOT Castellón, 5 projects reached the final phase and 2 were the winners. The second edition of the program, which started last November, received 33 requests for participation. After a project evaluation process, 17 teams have already started working on their entrepreneurial idea. The ultimate goal is to create a company, based on the knowledge generated at the university, which contributes to solve problems and challenges that our environment has raised.
