The award-winning initiatives aim to normalize food donations and preserve forests

The first edition ofUJI Empren OnSocial, a program to promote entrepreneurship among members of the university community, for project guanyadors. It consists of two initiatives that, using technology, seek to generate a positive social and environmental impact in our lives. Each project will receive 10.000 euros in grants to continue developing the new initiative with the support of Espaitec i SECOT Castelló.

darrere of Foodration4all There are Kilian Zaragozá Mora, José V. Villarroig Claramonte and Andrea Lorenzo Xiva, three UJI Alumni who are fellow students of Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering. Its objective is to improve the current system of food donation and social integration of disadvantaged people, thus responding to the conviction that it is possible to undertake business projects capable of generating wealth and economic value, contributing to its value and benefits to society.

Via Foodration4all donate food donations every day. To achieve this, they are developing a fluid and sustainable network between societies, supermarkets, donors, social entities and beneficiaries. To coordinate through a mobile application that helps generate simple and fast donations with emotional experiences in the world, it is produced by the action, with the participation of donors and the personalization of the help.

GreenFlight is a start-up that uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to preserve forests, or in the case of areas degraded by fires, waste outbreaks or plague proliferation, to help recover them. The project, promoted by Joan Esteban Altabella, technical architect and doctor in Industrial Technologies and Materials from the Universitat Jaume I, offers preventive and corrective services related to forest preservation.

In the preventive part, it carries out reconnaissance volumes to map the differentiating territory, by paths, zones and the risk of degradation. This service also offers a service focused on the surveillance of tourist concentration points and also on the execution of forestry actions with indications by georadar. In the corrective part, it focuses on recovering the areas degraded by fires, proliferation of pests or by the illegal use of waste through the dispersion of pre-germinated keys, the fumigation of fil per randa and the indication by georadar of the areas on which s'has to intervene.

The first edition of UJI Emprèn OnSocial will start in September 2017 with a total of 16 projects. After months of training and mentoring, coordinated by the Increa chair, Espaitec and SECOT Castelló, 5 projects will reach the final phase and 2 have followed the guanyadors. The second edition of the program, which will start next November, is open to 33 applications for participation. After a project evaluation process, 17 have followed the teams that have already begun to work on their entrepreneurial idea. The ultimate objective is to create a company, based on the general knowledge at the university, that contributes to solving the problems and problems that our environment poses.
