The attendees have learned the importance of becoming aware of emotions and various tools to increase emotional management
Espaitec has held its second in-person workshop framed within the cycle Cuida't Espaitec. In this sense, the psychologist, trainer and lecturer Kike Algora has been in charge of giving the session whose purpose has been to address How emotions influence cognitive abilities and, consequently, in productivity and in the relationship with people in the work environment.
How emotions affect cognitive abilities
As Algora explained, emotions can impact various skills such as listening, the ability to smile and pay attention, patience, conflict management, flexibility and collaboration with other people. Therefore, it is essential to know tools to enhance emotional intelligence and improve interpersonal communication skills to increase the ability to listen and empathize.
Types of emotions
To know what the types of emotions are, the speaker explained that, unlike feeling, which is a more rational and lasting effect, emotion is an ephemeral mood alteration.
Regarding the type of emotions, there are currently more than 500 defined. However, following the psychologist's theory Paul Eckman, Algora has defined as basic emotions joy, sadness, anger, disgust and fear and, in addition, he has explained that there are no good and bad emotions, but rather positive, negative or ambiguous emotions depending on the degree to which they produce well-being.
Amygdala hijacking
On the other hand, Algora has introduced the term “amygdala hijacking”, coined by the psychologist Daniel Goleman, which describes a set of immediate emotional responses that are not proportional to the real stimulus and that trigger excessive reactions. To avoid adverse effects caused by this reaction, it is essential to be aware of what is happening and find time to reduce the stress level and send the correct signal to the neocortex.
Cuida't Espaitec
