The rector of the Universitat Jaume I, Vicent Climent, and the vice-rector of Campus, New Technologies and PAS, Pablo Aibar, presented last July a computer application for mobile devices (app) that will allow Medicine and Nursing students to do the clinical practices and the management of clinical records through digital tablets, a pioneering initiative since the UJI is the first Spanish university to launch a project of these characteristics.

The UJI has launched this project so that students can use the “electronic medical record” with the aim of integrating their learning into the treatment and evolution of patients in the National Health System with an orientation towards personalized medicine. Each student of the Nursing and Medicine degrees who begins their clinical practices will have a tablet with the app installed, so that they will have an electronic file to manage medical visits to patients, which are stored as medical records made during their practices. throughout the degree. The records managed are adjusted to the medical reality of the hospitals in the Valencian Community, thanks to the collaboration with health experts, both in the field of health centers and in the teaching field. The innovation that this project provides lies in the portability of the device used (a 7" tablet, which fits in the pocket of a doctor's coat), the total data protection and security of the application, and the fact that the “ practice” can be delivered by email and/or Bluetooth to teachers. To optimize the use of this new tool, students will take training courses at both a technical and legislative level to guarantee adequate data protection.

The first version of the Nursing Degree application has been developed by the company Actualmed, installed in Espaitec, in collaboration with the Vice Dean of Nursing. Regarding the application for the practices of the Degree in Medicine, it has been developed by the University's Computer Service with the collaboration of the neurosurgeon Luis González Bonet, from the General Hospital of Castellón, and the vice dean of Medicine.

With this project, the UJI becomes a pioneering university in the field of health and new technologies, since it is the first Spanish university to launch this type of project that is already carried out, in a similar way, in other universities. foreigners from California and Washington.
