The initiative, which is part of the PIDI-CV line of projects to promote R&D in SMEs in the Valencian Community, is financed by IVACE and the European Union

GEA Biotechnology, a company linked to podcast, participates in a project to optimize the water management of passion fruit through the integration of water potential and physiological parameters. This initiative is part of the program PIDI-CV, co-financed by the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and European Union through the FEDER Operational Program of the Valencian Community 2014-2020.

The objective of the project is to obtain a efficient water management in agriculture through the development of an irrigation recommendation platform for the cultivation of passion fruit, since this fruit represents agricultural potential for regions such as Andalusia and the Valencian Community due to its adaptation to hot and humid climates. In this sense, the initiative is based on monitoring the water potential of the stem for the design of irrigation strategies that seek to optimize water consumption and improve crop yield.

Additionally, the company is collaborating with the Ecophysiology and Biotechnology research group at the Universitat Jaume IDirected by Aurelio Gomez, to incorporate an analysis of metabolic stress markers in passion fruit, providing a relevant research dimension for the advancement of efficient water use and sustainable agricultural production. Likewise, the initiative contributes to the search for solutions to present and future challenges in agriculture in the Valencian Community and Spain.
