Responsible innovation as a business opportunity
Responsible innovation represents a real business opportunity that brings important advantages for companies and for society as a whole. This is shown by the experiences gathered by the Universitat Jaume I in the conference on Responsible Research and Innovation to be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, from 12 to 14 p.m., in the Espaitec 2 multipurpose room.
The event is part of the project «Experiences in responsible innovation: an opportunity for Valencian science parks»(#InnovaRRI) and closes the cycle of workshops held in the science parks of the Valencian Community during 2019. The main objective of the workshops has been to publicize the Responsible Research and Innovation model promoted by the European Union so that technological developments and advances in innovation respond to the needs, expectations and values of society, so that innovation companies and citizens benefit and enrich each other.
Researcher Víctor Puntes, founder of the company Applied Nanoparticles, will open the session
The conference will feature the participation of researcher Víctor Puntes who will tell about the development experience of the spin off Applied Nanoparticles under the principles of RRI. Next there will be a round table in which the experiences of the companies of the Scientific, Technological and Business Park of the UJI (Espaitec) will be shown. david cabedo, deputy vice-rector for Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, will be in charge of opening the session and giving way to the conference «Spinning off under RRI principles» by Víctor Puntes, director of the Inorganic Nanoparticles research group of the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA) and founder of the company Applied Nanoparticles, which aims to transform waste into attractive raw materials in an efficient and sustainable manner under the principles of RRI. The company participated as case study in the European project Responsible Innovation Compass aimed at the development of tools and services adapted to the needs of SMEs to help emerging technology industries manage their research, development and innovation activities in a responsible and integrative manner.
Development of training materials
The day will continue with a balance of the project #InnovaRRI developed by the Vice-rector for Research and Transfer of the UJI through the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the Communication and Publications Service and financed by the Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society of the Generalitat Valenciana. The balance will be in charge of Rosana Sanahuja y Alicia Andres, UCC+i researchers, and will include the presentation of the developed training materials on RRI for companies, which will also be openly available on the project website.
The session will be completed with the round table “Good practices and perspectives of responsible innovation in the business environment” in which Hugo FerrerCEO SemanticBots, and David hernandez, responsible for communication of Four eighty, will explain the experience of both Espaitec companies when applying RRI principles based on the project developed by the UJI. The table will be completed with the participation of Juan Antonio Bertolin, director of Espaitec, and Elsa gonzalez, professor at the UJI and director of the European project ETHNA System (Ethics Governance System for RRI in Higher Education, Funding and Research Centres) and will be moderated by Francisco Fernandez Beltran, director of the Communication and Publications Service of the UJI.
