Today the Universitat Jaume I held a round table entitled "Steps towards an entrepreneurial university: from muses to theatre" within the Conference "25 years UJI, 25 years of entrepreneurship. Walking towards the future with our experience" in which the need to promote an enterprise of values from the educational field that leads to a change in the current economic model has been highlighted.
The Minister of Economy, Sustainability, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Labor, Rafael Climent, participated in the table; the president of the Social Council of the UJI, José L. Breva; the president of the Foundation of the Polytechnic City of Innovation, Juan Julià; the director of the Santander International Entrepreneurship Center (CISE), Federico Gutiérrez-Solana, and the mayor of Castelló de la Plana, Amparo Marco, under the moderation of José Luís Valencia. director of The Mediterranean newspaper.
Gutiérrez-Solana stated that "the university has to act comprehensively and plan entrepreneurial actions because it is a first-level strategic environment." Likewise, she added that it is necessary to sensitize the entire university environment in entrepreneurial attitudes and "radiate this culture to all previous educational sectors" for which she has demanded greater financial support for public administrations.
Climent has also pointed out that the values of the entrepreneurial spirit must be encouraged at all educational ages and has advocated for the promotion of projects that have not only economic but also social and environmental profitability because "we have to overcome the financial vision of undertaking and promoting values such as social equality, environmental impact or ethical requirements. On the other hand, she has stated that in terms of entrepreneurship a collaborative and transversal model is needed because "we have an entrepreneurial ecosystem but little coordination that leads to a lack of optimization."
For her part, Julià has started from the premise that entrepreneurship is as much a part of the university mission as training and transferring knowledge. Furthermore, he has stressed, like Climent, the importance of promoting "intelligent entrepreneurship with values" because it has to be used "not only to generate wealth or employment but to achieve a change in the economic model." In this sense, it has highlighted that studies show that universities are the best ecosystem to promote this type of entrepreneurship with more than 42% of entrepreneurial initiatives by people with higher education and indicators of quality, innovation or technologies. higher advanced degrees when the entrepreneurship comes from the university compared to the Spanish average.
Along these lines, Marco has pointed out that being an entrepreneur is a proactive attitude that has to be created within the university environment, both among teachers and students, because it is the path to reaching a society of excellence. Furthermore, he has pointed out that this undertaking must be made permeable to society with the support of public and private administrations and business organizations.
For her part, Breva has also agreed on the need to raise awareness among teachers that entrepreneurship is essential. Furthermore, she has stated that "entrepreneurship requires the commitment of the State and administrations" and has called for the elimination of bureaucratic obstacles and the simplification of procedures for the creation of companies.
