Espaitec and the Sagunto City Council sign an agreement to promote the transfer of knowledge and technology between university and company

The General Foundation of the Universitat Jaume I and the ASagunto town hall have signed a collaboration agreement to launch a program for the dissemination of research results in Sagunto to improve the transfer of knowledge and innovative programs to companies. The event was attended by the rector of the Universitat Jaume I, Eva Alcón; the mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno; the general director of Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), Júlia Company; the vice-rector for Research and Transfer, Jesús Lancis; the deputy vice-rector for Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, David Cabedo; the manager of the General Foundation of the UJI, Juan Antonio Bertolín, as well as the Councilor for Economic Promotion and First Deputy Mayor, Mª José Carrera, among others.

The mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, explained that the objective of the agreement is "to ensure that the university understands what the needs of companies are and can provide solutions to those problems that companies encounter in their daily lives." Moreno has expressed his gratitude because "Sagunto is the headquarters of one of the 'antennas', which is what these people will be called who will ensure that there is good communication and connection between the UJI and the companies in our municipality and, in this "In this sense, we absolutely support programs of this type for our municipality."

For her part, the rector Eva Alcón has highlighted that "the transfer to society of the knowledge generated at the University is one of the strategic objectives of the UJI" and has highlighted the importance of carrying out initiatives such as this one that "make it possible to bring university research to companies that, geographically, are further away from the campus with a double objective: to capture their challenges, in order to guide research towards overcoming them; and provide companies with the latest innovations derived from research results, so that they can incorporate them and benefit."

The general director of IVACE has highlighted the importance of this agreement aimed at improving the impact of the dissemination of research by universities and their science parks. «It is key to intensify the collaboration of the different interface agents that promote the exchange of experiences between researchers, companies and society as a whole with an objective that we defend from IVACE and the Department of Sustainable Economy: increase private investment in R&D ", favor the evolution of the productive sectors and the creation of stable and quality employment for Valencian companies."

Projects to promote the transfer of technology and knowledge in the province of Castellón

This project, which has the collaboration of the Office of Cooperation in Research and Technological Development of the UJI (OCIT), is framed in the activities of the agreement that was signed last July between the General Foundation of the UJI and the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) to promote the transfer of knowledge and technology between University-Business and support innovative entrepreneurship. Within this agreement, the development of a pilot program to reinforce the dissemination activity is framed, consisting of the launch of a results dissemination antenna in Sagunto, where the public university of Castellón has its headquarters.

The activities planned for this dissemination antenna are the preparation of materials to promote the dissemination of results, the holding of conferences and meetings between University research groups and business groups and the scheduling of visits to companies to detect needs in technology or organizational processes of companies and publicize the advances that are being made in these fields by the University's research groups.

In order to promote the generation of employment and the labor insertion of citizens and therefore increase citizen well-being, the Sagunto City Council, through the Department of Economic Promotion, has launched a development strategy that seeks to improve actions regarding employment and training, promoting entrepreneurship to add more social and economic dynamism in the territory and disseminating innovation in all aspects of economic activity to modernize the local economy.

Likewise, the General Foundation of the Universitat Jaume I promotes its objectives established in the agreement through cooperation in the fulfillment of the University's own functions, complementing and improving those activities carried out by the University structure; manage various infrastructures of the Universitat Jaume I and the services linked to them, as well as promote innovation, technological development and the use of new technologies in research, teaching and management.

The General Universitat Jaume I Foundation and the Sagunto Council have signed a collaboration agreement to set up a program to disseminate research results in Sagunto to improve the transfer of knowledge, technology and innovative programs to companies. Darío Moreno, the Mayor of Sagunto, explained that the aim of the agreement is to "get the university to understand companies' requirements and to provide solutions to the problems that companies face everyday." Moreno expressed his gratitude because «Sagunto is a base for one of the 'antennae', the name given to people who ensure good communication and connection between the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) and companies from our town and, thus, to completely support such programs for our town.

Rector Eva Alcón stressed that «transferring knowledge generated at universities to society is one of the UJI's strategic objectives» and emphasized the importance of adopting such initiatives as «they take university research to companies that are geographically located further away from the campus for a twofold objective : learn about their challenges to orientate research to help companies overcome them; "help the latest innovations from research results reach companies so they can include them and benefit from them."

The IVACE General Manager underlined the importance of this agreement, which intends to improve the impact of diffusing research works from universities and their science parks. «Intensifying collaboration between different interface agents to promote the exchange of experiences is key among researchers, companies and society as a whole for an objective that IVACE and the Regional Ministry of Sustainable Economy seek: increase private investments in R&D, favor the evolution of production sectors , create stable jobs and improve the quality of Valencian companies».

Projects to favor technology and knowledge transfer in the province of Castellón

This project, with the collaboration of the Cooperation Office for Technological Research and Development (OCIT), is one of the activities in the agreement signed in July between the General UJI Foundation and the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) to promote knowledge and technology transfer between the universities and companies, and to support innovative entrepreneurship. This agreement forms part of the pilot program run to reinforce the diffusion activity, which consists of setting up an antenna to disseminate results in Sagunto, where the public university of Castellón has premises.

The activities planned for this diffusion antenna include preparing materials to favor diffusing results, organizing events and encounters among university research groups and groups of companies, and programming visits to companies to detect their technology requirements or their organizational processes, and to make known the advances made in the fields worked on by university research groups.

To be able to favor job creation and employability for citizens and to, thus, enhance citizen welfare, the Sagunto Council, with its Department of Economic Promotion, has set up a development strategy that seeks to improve employment and training actions, to promote the business spirit to add more socio-economic dynamism in the area and to diffuse innovation for all economic activity aspects to modernize the local economy.

The General Universitat Jaume I Foundation promotes its objectives set out in this agreement by cooperating to perform typical university functions by complementing and improving those activities carried out by the university's structure; manage different UJI infrastructures and the services linked to them; encourage innovation and technological development; employ new technologies in research, teaching and management.
