Espaitec, the UJI Science and Technology Park, promotes STEM vocations
The first day of the Women's Science and Technology project, promoted by the Association of Scientific and Technological Parks of Spain (APTE), in which Espaitec participates, began on October 8 at 9 a.m. with the presentation of the program by Eva Alcón Soler, rector of the Universitat Jaume I, to the participating institutions. The project involves students from the IES Penyagolosa and the Mater Dei of Castelló de la Plana who virtually attend the day in which a commitment to digital formats has been made to adapt to current circumstances.
Subsequently, the simultaneous connection of all participating Spanish institutes has been carried out through the project website to attend the broadcast live from the Galícia Technology Park. The broadcast, which began with a brief presentation by Felipe Romera, president of APTE, continued with a great science spectacle for the students. Through a fresh and humorous proposal, the scientific disseminators have approached the problem of promoting scientific-technological vocations among the sectors and the aspects that generate a deficit of university students in these areas. For now, they have played roles and stereotypes, they have approximated stellar moments of science starring scientists and they have carried out experiments with great visibility for this community.
The scientific disseminators have ended the day with a virtual visit to the exhibition "Gifts that will change the world", in which they show examples of great gifts from the history of science and technology that have provided great assistance for the humanity and the guide What's the big deal? This guide compiles information on the application in the labor field of existing scientific and technological careers, and is intended for students to have a broader view of the possible career opportunities that can be offered by the science and technology studies that they offer. Both men and women help foster female STEM vocations through a program that helps gifts foster their interest in science.
In the next few days, the institutes will draw up profiles of gifts close to their environment, in the case of Castelló they will analyze the profiles of relevant technologists from the Jaume I University with Gladys Mínguez, from the Optical Research Group of the UJI and Amelia Simó, director of the Higher School of Technology and Experimental Sciences. Participating on behalf of Espaitec are Susana Aceituno from the company Outcomes'10 and Inma Solís from the company Biotics Biochemistry Analytical, all of the companies installed in the Science Park itself.
