The General Foundation of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló, the managing entity of Espaitec, and the Institute of Advanced Materials of the UJI have launched a demonstrator for the production and storage of green hydrogen, thanks to the financial support of the Valencian Agency of the Innovation (AVI)
Espaitec, in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Materials (INAM) of the UJI, have implemented a hydrogen production and storage demonstrator, from Photovoltaic Solar Energy, thanks to the financial support of the Valencian Agency for Innovation (AVI) within the project UJI.>LAB Impuls. The support of the AVI has allowed the design, assembly and implementation of this demonstrator for the transformation of renewable energy into chemical energy and its storagegood as green hydrogen, as well as energy accumulated in a battery.
The demonstrator allows generating green hydrogen through a electrolyser powered with electrical energy provided by photovoltaic cells. This hydrogen can be stored in an 850-liter tank at a pressure of 6 bars, and converted into electrical energy through a fuel cell. The complete system consists of an installation of photovoltaic panels (nominal power 5,86kW), a polymer membrane technology electrolyzer (2kW), a hydrogen storage tank (850 liters at 6 bars), and a 1 kW of power. Through this demonstrator, the business community will be able to benefit from clean energy, improving industrial processes and facilitating the energy transition to reduce decarbonization, and creating synergies to promote the transfer of knowledge university-company.
It should be noted that the recent annual collaboration agreements between the General Foundation of the UJI, the managing entity of Espaitec, and the AVI have allowed the launch of different demonstrators to boost the research capabilities of the Institute of New Image Technologies (INIT) in 2022, and from INAM in 2023.

UJI.>LAB Impuls
The Universitat Jaume I promotes the transfer of knowledge generated at the public university of Castelló through the program UJI.>LAB Impuls. The objective is to place the UJI-owned technologies in the best conditions for their transfer either through licensing processes or by enabling the constitution of a Knowledge Base Company (EBC) o spin off. The project is led by the Office of Cooperation in Research and Technological Development (OCIT) from the UJI, and where Espaitec participates as program manager with the financial support of the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI).
