The initiative, led by the Association of Scientific and Technological Parks of Spain (APTE), celebrates its seventh edition
Espaitec held the event this Tuesday Science and Technology in Feminine with students from IES Bovalar of Castellón to inspire scientific and technological vocations among young women. The initiative is part of the program promoted by the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE).
The director of Espaitec, Juan Antonio Bertolín, opened the day, highlighting the importance of this type of session to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) professions among secondary school students.
The students then learned about the experiences of three female scientists. Firstly, Emma Moliner, professor in Continuum Mechanics and Structural Theory at the Universitat Jaume I, explained that industrial engineering allows you to have a broad vision since you study areas such as electricity, mechanics and physics, among others. “Currently, I am dedicated to simulating how bridges behave when a train passes over them in order to predict possible damage and design infrastructures in a more optimal way,” he said.
For its part, Agueda Gomez, a doctor in Computer Science and video game programmer at the UJI, has explained that one of the advantages that her profession allows her is to use and be able to experiment with disruptive technology that has just been launched on the market, such as immersive virtual reality glasses.
Lastly, Raquel Martín, Software Developer at NTT Date, has pointed out that STEAM professions allow you to work on very different projects and develop from scratch everything you can imagine. “In my case, I have developed software for public administrations, insurance companies and energy companies, among others.”
After the presentations, the students of IES Bovalar visited the exhibition «Women who changed the world and women who change the world» and has participated in two theoretical-practical workshops to delve deeper into the concepts presented during the day.
The Science and Technology in Feminine conference has the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment.
