The European project UNaLab has had a very intense week at the facilities of Spaitec, since more than 40 people from 10 different countries have gathered at the corporate meeting of the UNaLab project.
During this week it has been possible to verify the progress in the Nature-Based Solutions that the participating cities have carried out, seeing the suitability of continuing to look for measures that help introduce sustainable measures that help alleviate climate change in our urban society.
It is of great importance to know that work is being done for a better future in cities and that, thanks to the tools that are being developed, progress can be quantified, since the aim is to obtain reliable data to be able to see what impact the application of these measures, so the aim is to move from only qualitative data to the joint use of qualitative and quantitative data.
Some of the measures that are being taken in the UNaLab project are, use of roofs as urban gardens to help biodiversity and avoid flooding, use of Green walls, work on the reuse of water, both rainwater and water from wastewater treatment plants. , green areas within cities and the use of wetlands as rainwater retention, etc.
SBN measures for Castellón
The city of Castellón is also preparing within the UNaLab project to be able to make a more prosperous city using Nature-Based Solutions. That is why modifications to some of the existing industrial zones are being studied to make them greener. In this sense, they also want to create accessible trails with the use of SBN and regarding the issue of water there is a project that aims to find solutions that prevent flooding in times of torrential rains. Lastly, from the Castelló Town Hall They also want to commit to creating a green belt that helps the city's air quality.
