This edition analyzes trends in the blue economy, marine biotechnology, and blue crime from a global and innovative perspective.

Espaitec has launched the 7th edition of its PRISMA newsletter, a technology watch publication that compiles the technological trends that are expected to be disruptive in the near future. This time, the document focuses on the blue economy, blue crime and blue biotechnology, addressing key initiatives, technologies and developments in these emerging fields.

The current edition of PRISMA focuses on European projects such as CALYPSO, focusing on sustainable algae cultivation in the Macaronesia region, and the development of innovative solutions such as floating electrical substations or eco-friendly catamarans for marine cleanup. Also highlighted are initiatives in maritime cybersecurity, biotechnology projects with medical applications, and international patents on new materials and technologies for the use of marine resources.

On the other hand, blue crime, an emerging concept that refers to environmental crimes in aquatic ecosystems, is dealt with in depth through projects such as Ibiza Preservation Classroom of Universitat Jaume I and the project MarPITIUS 25, aimed at assessing the impact of discharges on the Balearic coast.

This initiative has the support of the Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment, Generalitat Valenciana and reinforces Espaitec's commitment to sustainability, knowledge transfer, and the promotion of emerging technologies with a positive impact on society.
