The meeting focused on the role of science parks in the development of smart grids and smart cities, and in particular on the cooperation between science parks, local authorities and business communities, both in the EU and the US. Along these lines, Juan A. Bertolín spoke about the Penyagolosa Territori Intel.ligent initiative, a project that under the eLivingLab framework is executed in collaboration with a group of municipalities in the interior of the province of Castellón, so that through the incorporation of innovation and technology, these towns achieve a differentiated identity for their territory, turning them into Smart Territories that provide added value to each of their actions, both commercial, institutional, social and labor.
The event aimed at representatives of regions, cities, service providers, and business organizations that can interact with science parks in the development of smart grids and smart city initiatives, focused on relevant best practices of smart grid projects in the EU and local authorities in the United States, which are paving the way for the application of Smart Cities.
The JRC Round Table was structured around two keynote presentations by Paul Krutko, President and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK, Michigan (USA) and Josep Piqué, President of the European Division of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas. of Innovation (IASP).
Among the main conclusions, highlight the role of Science Parks as important intermediaries in the dissemination of research results and related innovations in the field of smart networks, since they can connect to research organizations and the business community.
