The meeting aimed to share points of view and experiences that contribute to a change in the economic model based on sustainability. The debate focused on what measures related to innovation should be taken in the medium term to improve and make the existing productive sectors of the Valencian Community more competitive and consolidate emerging sectors, analyzing what role Universities and Science Parks should play here, among other related agents.
The rector of the Universitat Jaume I, Vicent Climent, highlighted the importance of reflecting together on the role of universities and science parks, as well as learning about international experiences through participation in the meeting of Luís Sanz, General Director of the International Association of Science Parks and Innovation Areas (IASP), who gave a talk on the role of Science Parks today. Sanz emphasized the Park models and innovation management trends that are standing out on a global scale and proposals for adaptation to the Valencian ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation.
For her part, María José Mira pointed out that from the Ministry "we are working to achieve a productive model based on knowledge, research and innovative development and in this task the role of Valencian universities is decisive." During her intervention, Mira highlighted the importance of “searching for synergies” between all the agents of the Valencian Innovation System “that puts an end to the fragmentation and dispersion of innovation policies and allows for the promotion of intelligent industrialization.”
The event was held within the framework of actions developed within the Network of Valencian Science Parks (rePCV), an association that represents the five Science and Technology Parks linked to Valencian public Universities. The meeting served to renew the network's charges, which are transferred annually.
Paco Negre, General Director of espaitec, assumed the position of president of the rePCV until July 2016. Antonia Salinas Miralles, Director of the Quorum Scientific and Business Park Foundation of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, took the position of vice president of the rePCV and Salvador Coll Arnau, Director of the Polytechnic City of Innovation, left the presidency to assume the position of secretary. Joaquín Marhuenda Fructuoso, General Director of the Science Park Foundation of the University of Alicante, and Juan Antonio Raga Esteve, Director of the University of Valencia Science Park, are the members of the association.
