More than 3.000 students participated in this edition of Science and Technology for Women, which seeks to promote STEAM vocations and female leadership in science and technology.

La Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE) has closed the 7th edition of the program Science and Technology in feminine with a day held at The Green Lemon building at Málaga TechPark. The initiative, which had the support of Hitachi Rail as a sponsor, brought together around one hundred students and representatives of organizations committed to promoting STEAM vocations and the female leadership.

Key data

The results of this edition were presented during the event. Twenty-one science and technology parks participated, and 21 workshops were held in 38 educational centers across Spain. In total, more than 50 high school students participated in the activities. It is noteworthy that 3.000% of the girls surveyed changed their career path toward professions related to STEAM disciplines after participating in the program.

The day included the participation of Felipe Romera, president of APTE and general manager of Málaga TechPark; Alicia Izquierdo, councilor of the Malaga City Council; Beatriz Blázquez, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaga; Paloma Rodriguez, Provincial Secretary General of Educational Development and Vocational Training in Malaga; and Elena Chavarría, Communications & ESG Manager at Hitachi Rail. The speakers agreed on the importance of encouraging women to access scientific and technological careers from an early age.

After the institutional welcome, the session included a round table moderated by Solitude Dayz, managing director of APTE, where female leadership in the technology sector was discussed. The debate included Sofia Schneider, from Oracle; Teresa Cruz, from the Discover Foundation; and Esther Torés, from the ASTI Foundation, who have highlighted the importance of offering real role models and mentoring programs for young women.

The artificial intelligence software engineer at Google Cloud, María García Puyol, gave an inspiring presentation, sharing her international career and her return to Málaga to develop AI solutions. In 2018, García Puyol was recognized as one of the 35 innovators under 35 in Europe by MIT Technology Review.

Competition

The event concluded with the awards ceremony of the 7th competition “Innovative proposals to address the challenges of sustainable development”The Salesian School of Santo Ángel received first prize for its "BOSQUI" project, while second place went to the Regina Carmeli School for "CREATING A SUSTAINABLE GARDEN FOR ANIMALS." IES Bovalar, In collaboration with podcast, has won third prize for the initiative “LIPLACA BOT”The winning teams have received various awards, including robotics kits, technology courses, and educational books.

With this event, APTE reinforces its commitment to promoting scientific and technological careers among young women, helping to build a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem in Spain's science and technology parks.
