The update of the regulations introduces new methods for detecting Legionella

Last Thursday, May 11, the first of the technical conferences on updating the UNE100030 Standard took place in Madrid, organized by the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA), the Federation of Indoor Environmental Quality Companies (FEDECAI) and Aqua Spain. The event included the participation of different professional profiles within the prevention and treatment of legionellosis, highlighting the presence of analysis laboratories, water maintenance and treatment companies, certification entities and inspectors and technicians from the Public Administration. The success of participation was such that a new information day has already been organized in Barcelona on June 29.

Carlos Ferrer, General Director of Biotics and active member of the AEN/CTN 100 – AIR CONDITIONING committee that has updated the standard, made a presentation highlighting the possibility contemplated by this new standard of using alternative methods to cultivation to analyze Legionella, as long as they are validated and certified by competent organizations. as would be the case of Legipid®, the kit for rapid detection and quantification of Legionella spp. based on an immunomagnetic separation. The main objective of these technical meetings is to publicize and explain the key issues of the new regulatory framework established in Spain in the professional field of the prevention and control of Legionella in water installations, with the entry in force in April 2017 of the new UNE 100030:2017 Standard, which establishes the hygienic-sanitary criteria for the prevention and control of legionellosis.

Updating the standard introduces new methods to detect Legionella

On Thursday 11 May the first of the technical events about updating Standard UNE100030 by the Spanish National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA), the Federation of Interior Environmental Quality Companies (FEDECAI) and Aqua España, was held in Madrid. Different professional profiles were found at this event, within the field of preventing and treating Legionnaires' disease, and the presence of testing laboratories, water maintenance and treatment companies, certification bodies, and inspectors and technicians from the Public Administrations stood out. Participation was so successful that a new informative event has been organized in Barcelona for 29 June.

Carlos Ferrer, the General Director of Biotics and an active member of the AEN/CTN 100 – CLIMATIZATION Committee that has updated this Standard, gave a talk that stressed the possibility contemplated in this new Standard of using alternative methods to culture ones to analyze Legionella, provided they have been validated and certified by competent organizations as with Legipid®, a kit used to quickly detect and quantify Legionella spp. based on immunomagnetic separation.
