Experts and professionals from different sectors involved in the prevention and treatment of Legionella, both from the public administration and private companies, met this week in the Espaitec 2 building of the Scientific, Technological and Business Park of the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón to attend the technical conference on immunomagnetic separation (SIM) technology applied to the prevention of legionellosis, organized by Biotics Biochemistry Analytical SL.?
The Castellón company has developed the rapid test Legipid®, increasingly used for the detection and quantification of Legionella in water samples and, during the session, the commercial director, Mireia Lazaro, as well as the scientific director of the firm, Guillermo Rodriguez, announced the latest advances that this project has experienced in a day moderated by Begoña Bedrina, member of the commercial technical department.
As for the rest of the presentations, Sergi Martí, president of AquaEspaña, spoke about the entry into force of the UNE 100030:2017 Standard on Prevention and control of the proliferation and dissemination of Legionella in facilities, which establishes a new regulatory framework that allows raising voluntarily professional standards in the sector to guarantee that service companies have the technical solvency that guarantees due protection of public health. This standard, complementary to the current Royal Decree RD865/2003, contemplates the use of validated and certified methods, such as immunomagnetic separation.
For his part, Jesús Laso, manager of the Quality Services Office, and Inmaculada Solís, head of Microbiology at Iproma, defined the simple guidelines and procedures for accredited laboratories to incorporate the test. In turn, Juan Carlos Montero, head of Environmental and Clinical Microbiology at the Institute of Health Sciences of Talavera de la Reina, explained the important role that the Legipid® test has had in the control of legionellosis outbreaks.
The day, which was inaugurated by the academic director of Espaitec-UJI, David Cabedo, concluded with a practical session in which attendees were able to verify the simplicity of use of this detection method, in addition to sharing experiences and applications of the Legipid rapid test. ®.
