Approximately 70 representatives of parks and Spanish and Portuguese companies met in Huelva to discuss the common strategy that parks can play in European aid programs. Espaitec has been there represented by Paco Negre, CEO of the Park and president of the APTE Financing Committee.

On this occasion, the motto of VII Iberian Meeting of Scientific and Technological Parks has been "launched the Spanish-Portuguese business cooperation strategy for the management of the next community funds." For this reason, during the meeting the upcoming European aid programs were analyzed with special emphasis on Horizon 2020 and the Regional Intelligent Specialization Strategies (RIS3), which allow progress in financing opportunities through community funds and promote collaboration. of Spanish and Portuguese science and technology parks in European projects.

During the meeting, different activities were carried out, including presentations, round tables, analysis of practical cases and free networking.

At the opening ceremony, the intervention of Maria Luisa Castaño, General Director of Innovation and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), who congratulated the Spanish and Portuguese parks for the initiative to carry out this alliance between the two Spanish and Portuguese parks associations, for the commitment to promote internationalization of their companies and finally, for associating the park concept with the design of regional intelligent specialization strategies (RIS3).

James of the Castle, President of Information and Development SL (INFYDE) gave a talk on the role of parks as instruments to support specialization and related diversification in the RIS3 as a precondition for the Cohesion Funds. During his intervention, he clarified with examples the terminology that is being used in the design of the RIS3, such as KET technologies, intelligent specialization and related diversity. Likewise, the president of Infyde has highlighted the relationship between GDP per capita and R&D investment, such that the countries that invest the most in R&D obtain the most wealth. This fact currently takes on special importance and therefore, access to structural funds is a necessity and parks have to work with the regions to develop the RIS3 as an extant condition to access these funds.

Luis Sanz, President of the International Association of Technology Parks and Innovation Areas (IASP), he highlighted in his speech that parks are increasingly an urban phenomenon and not necessarily for reasons of physical proximity but for their involvement in municipal activities.

For its part, Javier García Serrano, Head of the Industrial Leadership Department of the EU Programs Division of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), outlined the different formulas for participation in the projects of excellence in Horizon 2020, among which the possibility that the SMEs can participate individually.

The intervention of Francisco Jaime Quesado, member of the Portuguese Group of Clusters, discussed the new value challenges in a smart economy, analyzing concepts with concrete examples of new collaborative networks, new intermediation processes, dynamic flow management and new institutional marketing.

The Iberian meetings have been held since 2002 and are one of the activities that the Spanish and Portuguese park associations carry out within the agreement signed between both institutions to promote innovation and internationalization of the scientific and technological parks of the Iberian Peninsula. .
