Product engineering has consolidated its presence in the automotive and mobility sectors, beginning to work with aeronautical and naval companies.

Abervian, a company based in Espaitec, has closed 2024 consolidating itself as a benchmark in technological development thanks to a 48% growth in the last financial year. Thus, the Castellón product engineering company, founded by David Oliver y Javier Barahona, is specialized in electric mobility, storage y power management.

Sectors

In 2024, Abervian began its activity in the aeronautical and aerospace sectors, obtaining the first private contracts and consortia that transfer its knowledge to these areas. In addition, it has strengthened its presence in the naval and port sectors, increasing related projects after years of experience in these sectors. These new initiatives add to its consolidated activity in the automotive sector, light electric mobility, stationary and second-life batteries, electric vehicle charging and intelligent energy management systems.

Projects

The company covers projects such as the development of a vertical takeoff aircraft and its innovative battery system, a boat with hydrogen and battery propulsion, intelligent energy management systems EMS for hybridization of photovoltaics and batteries or control electronics for satellite propulsion systems, among others.

In addition, it also designs second-life battery-based storage systems for applications of all scales, water fall energy recovery systems, portable recharging solutions or battery exchange solutions for light mobility. They also develop electronic systems in any field of application, such as the control of corrosion and biological fouling on metal surfaces in marine environments.

Services

Abervian serves a wide variety of clients, including start-ups and established organisations developing new products or business divisions. The company has a multidisciplinary engineering team that tackles projects from the specification phase to the creation of functional prototypes in tight timeframes, to the subsequent implementation of new functionalities and the industrialisation process of the product.

The startup also works closely with its clients' development teams, taking on specific responsibilities or providing expertise in specific areas depending on the needs of each project. This ability to adapt allows its services to be efficiently integrated into different environments and industrial sectors.

R&D Leadership

Abervian has been instrumental in important funded projects, managing a total budget of 1,5 million euros in collaboration with national and international consortia. Among them, projects such as ChargeBoost (energy management system for ultra-fast charging points for electric vehicles), GEMELOTEC (digital twins for batteries on ships) and Electra (electric eVTOL with an advanced battery management system -BMS- adapted to aeronautical regulations).

In addition, other initiatives should also be noted, such as BOH2SEA (design of a boat powered by hydrogen and batteries), EV4MODULAR-SHIP y MODULAR SHIP (prototype of an electric and sustainable auxiliary port vessel for MARPOL waste collection), and Click&Charge (portable charging system for electric vehicles integrated into an AGV with automatic mobility).

This set of projects places the budget managed by Abrevian at around 1,5 million euros for consortium R&D&I initiatives.

Strengthening staff and technological capabilities

Abrevian has expanded its team in 2024 with four new additions and two doctoral stays, strengthening its capacity to tackle technological projects in various areas:

  • Electronic design and PCB development
  • Firmware programming in multiple languages
  • Electromechanical integration of components
  • Prototyping and validation
  • Development of forecasting algorithms, control, mathematical models and digital twins
  • Cloud software development

PhD stays provide research experience in battery characterization, advanced state models (SOC, SOH, SOP, SOS) and digital twins, strengthening the company's technical capabilities.

Growth aligned with its founding values

Abrevian's growth remains in line with the values that defined its foundation: people, technology and environmental sustainability. According to Javier Barahona, CEO of the company, alignment with these principles guides strategic decisions and the development of new projects.
